Trending: theCURVYcon (Day Two)
Day Two of theCURVYcon is where a lot more of the magic happens! Discussion panels are the focal point of day two with a full day of speakers. I personally got there a smidge late thanks to train delays and managed to get in right as the "Do It with the Lights On, How to Be Body Positive in Every Area of Your Life" panel was about to begin. Speakers included Co-Founder of theCURVYcon CeCe Olisa, Project Runway winner Ashley Nell Tipton, Author Whitney Way There, Loey Lane & Chante Burkett of EverythingCurvyandChic.com. It was quite funny and super empowering to hear these ladies talk about embracing their bodies, sex & much more!
By 11ish it was time for the panel I most wanted to see! the Girl Boss panel with Claire Sulmers creator of Fashion Bomb Daily, CeCe and Chastity plus my two favorite bloggers Nicolette Mason & Gabi Gregg Co-creators of PREMME. If you haven't checked out their brand do so NOW!
I love how informative it was! From talking about how to get your blog to where you'd like it to be to how you can turn it into a business it was pretty interesting to see how all of these ladies conquered it and were able to work for themselves. After that panel was finished we were provided lunch and the opportunity to shop some more (what I didn't mention in my last post was that I'd done plenty of shopping the day before). I took the opportunity to pick up some pants I'd been eyeing the day before as well as see some friends!
The Lunch & Learn panel with Lane Bryant was amazing. We got a sneak peak at holiday fashions that were hitting stores soon!!! We also got to see quite the lively Q&A during that panel. The Dear Retailer panel was quite important. Many of the gals in attendance were looking forward to this particular panel because it gave them the opportunity to ask questions and be transparent about what it is they were looking for and needing. With companies like Macy's, Lane Bryant, Modcloth & Target speaking it was important to get those points out there. For me I wanted to hear about shorter but curvier women and what could be done about always having to tailor everything I ever buy! Apparently I wasn't the only one! I'm happy to report several of the companies above are committed to making that work, in fact Lane Bryant just launched petites!!!! WOOT!
Keynote speaker, Emmy nominated actress Chrissy Metz (This Is Us) was an absolute treasure. She was quite spunky and very lively on that stage. Her Eloquii outfit was to die for and she was just an all around sweetheart. The line at the end to meet her wasn't so long at all and when I hugged her she gladly let it hang a bit tighter.
The highlight for me was getting to meet, talk to and get a picture with Nia Jaxx. Nia is a WWE wrestler and model! She makes it ok for me to go see her at live events with a wrestling crowd who sometimes wonders just why I'm so fashionable at them. Wrestling and fashion in a "normal" world don't mix, but this isn't a normal world and I'm sure as hell ain't that boring! I got to hug her, tell her how much I love her and damn near cried. The woman is that amazing and super sweet. It was great to see her all over the place enjoying all the body positivity and all of the love.
Guys & Dolls day two was one of the most memorable days I've ever experienced in life. I will never not go to theCURVYcon, it's that special. Don't miss out.
